Quick Tips for Applying

If you’re wondering about university admissions, the following tips might help you submit a solid application:

  • Maintain a strong transcript. Choose courses that challenge you and do well in those courses!
  • Show interest in an institution by contacting an admissions officer, attending a information session or interview, and visit the campus if possible.
  • Be involved. Devote your time to activities that truly interest you and learn how to articulate your passion in your college application.
  • Write an essay that only you can write. Allow your voice and character to come through.
  • Nurture your relationship with teacher and other faculty. Help them know all your great qualities so they can be your advocates.

Think about what YOU want to do after graduation. If that’s a gap year, talk to the Triveni office to research those options and tell the Guidance Office about your decision. There are so many options!

If you want to look at universities, think about WHY you want to go. Are you intent on helping promote the mission of the UWC’s? Do you want to act as an agent of social or economic change in the world? Are you driven to fight narrow-minded nationalism? Think about your ideals throughout this process.

Information About Applying

When you are looking at different universities, it might help to make a list of the schools with the following information:

  • Size of the campus
  • Size of the student body
  • Size of the average class
  • Location of the college
  • Academic atmosphere
  • Majors offered
  • Social Life
  • Athletics
  • Ethnic and geographical composition of the student body

You might also want to think about what type of college it is. a liberal arts college? a technical institute? large school with graduate programs? all male or all female? historically Black? a military academy? If you were to describe your perfect college, think about how it would address your dreams and your strengths and your weaknesses. Why does this college suit you? Answering these questions might help you narrow down your choices.

You will need to submit the International Student Financial Aid Application (ISFAA) with almost all applications to the US along with whatever financial suppliments universities require. You can find a copy of this in the repository. This should be completed by you and your parents over the summer between your first and second year.
